Lianhe Zaobao (联合早报) is the flagship Chinese daily in Singapore, established since March 16, 1983, following the merger of two established Chinese newspapers, Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh, which date back to 1923 and 1929 respectively. With its strong history, Lianhe Zaobao is the most-read Chinese newspaper in Singapore and a trusted information source for the Chinese-speaking community.
Singapore’s only and most-read Chinese morning daily is an influential and authoritative source of local and foreign news, and is regarded as an important source of political and economic news on East Asia, especially China.
Lianhe Zaobao commands an extensive correspondent network in Beijing, Chong Qing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo, and experienced stringers in other parts of the world. It is well-positioned to give readers timely and in-depth coverage of significant events taking place in the region and beyond.
The paper’s Sunday edition, zbSunday (早报星期天), focuses on lighter and more human interest stories, offering a livelier and more vibrant reading experience, with a snazzier and brighter look and feel.
Lianhe Zaobao extends its reach to digital audiences through zaobao.sg and zaobao.com.
Zaobao.com is a widely-accessed Chinese news portal, providing objective news and insights that are targeted at audiences in Greater China.
Zaobao.sg, the Singapore-facing platform, was re-launched in September 2016 with a brand new look and wider range of content offerings to better cater to the digital news demands of local audiences.
The “upsized” Chinese news and infotainment website is managed by the digital arm of SPH’s Chinese Media Group, and incorporates content and journalistic values of its three flagship papers – Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, and Shin Min Daily News. The site’s tagline: “早晚全新” － combines “早报”, “晚报”, “新明”, and also means “new content throughout the day”.
Zaobao.sg carries a good mix of digital-exclusive videos, animations and interactive content in the free sections, while subscribers also get access to full print content in the premium zone.
Zaobao digital also manages the Belt and Road portal (beltandroad.zaobao.com), a site dedicated to the “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) development strategy and framework. The portal presents an overview of the Belt and Road Initiative, its latest developments, news, business opportunities, analyses, commentaries and a calendar of activities relating to the regions along the belt and road. The site serves to drive a deep understanding of OBOR among Singapore enterprises, as well as offer Chinese readers around the world a Singapore and Southeast Asia perspective on OBOR.
In addition, Zaobao digital also manages SPH’s bilingual SGSME portal (sgsme.sg). This portal, launched in April 2017, is built for Singapore’s SME owners, managers and entrepreneurs. Curating content from across the group’s English and Chinese publications and portals, sgsme.sg is a news-driven repository of information and knowledge for local SMEs; a single site serving up a spread of SME-related news, analyses, features and interviews from The Business Times, The SME Magazine, The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News.
Lianhe Zaobao is also available on mobile platforms for both iOS and Android devices.
