40 winners find free lunch “SoShiok”

It is often said that there are no free lunches in this world, but 40 lucky winners might disagree, with good reason — they won a scrumptious food tasting lunch session after using The Straits Times SoShiok mobile app.

All they had to do was to download the SoShiok mobile app and answer a simple question within the app.

The SoShiok app is Singapore Press Holdings’ (SPH) food discovery and reviews platform that features all the good eats as reviewed by food writers from all English-language publications in one place. Apart from food reviews, users can also find a directory listing of popular eateries, and can also review them.

Hosted by The Straits Times Life food editor Tan Hsueh Yun and food critic Wong Ah Yoke, the SoShiok Feast took the  winners on a four-hour gastronomic experience at The Seletar Mall on Aug 15.

Featuring a 13-course lunch with signature dishes from 13 different tenants, the winners were treated to local authentic cuisines, as well as dishes from Thailand, Korea and Japan.

One crowd favourite was the signature crayfish noodles by French-Japanese-Thai restaurant Three By Table Concept. Its brand consultant, Ms Jane Tan, 40, said: "We hope this event can raise more awareness among people about the mall, and let them know that there's a food paradise here."

The Seafood Cheese Pizza by modern-Japanese café Shokudo was also a hit.

Ms Tan Ying Xin, 20, was one of the winners who was pleasantly surprised by her lunch treat. The self-confessed foodie said: “I didn’t expect the lunch to be so formal with a 13-course menu. There is just so much variety to try here!”

Frequent mall visitor Lee Cheng, 48, was not surprised by the variety of food available at the mall. However, he felt this was a great opportunity for him to have a good tasting at the outlets he has yet to try.

The psychiatrist, who works nearby said: “The crayfish by Three By Table Concept and the Korean saba fish by NTUC FoodFare were my favourites, all thanks to the Feast. Else, I would not have known these joints serve up such good fish.”
