May 29, 2019

If you think Singapore Book Fair 2019 is just about a lot of books, think again.

When it opens at Capitol on 31 May (Friday), you might find yourself wondering what to do first, with the abundance of activities you will find. And yes, there will also be a lot of books. It was designed to promote the joy of reading, after all!

So what can you expect over the next 10 days?

Book lover’s paradise

Those who love books and a good bargain are in for a treat.

Bring a pre-loved book in good condition to the Singapore Book Fair, scribble your thoughts and deposit it in the Book Exchange area at Capitol Theatre Level 2.

In return, you get to pick a book that catches your fancy and bring it home. How cool is that?

Meanwhile, keep a lookout for an independent bookstore that picks and chooses unique books from Taiwan and China, and a booth that has nothing but English SingLit will titillate your taste buds for the uncustomary.

Authors, authors, authors

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will share about the Chinese edition of his biography,
Tall Order: The Goh Chok Tong story. It will be launched at the fair on June 4.

Ambassador-at-large Professor Tommy Koh will also be there to share about his book, “200 Years of Singapore and the United Kingdom”.

Singapore’s very own artist Richard Lee, famous for drawing Singapore icons, will also share how he keeps Singapore memories alive through illustrations.

Look out for many other English and Chinese authors from the region.

Kids fun galore

Let your kids join in the fun with engaging craftworks, story-telling sessions, a colouring contest to win LEGO Pop-Up books and lots of fun activities that will be waiting for the little ones at the Singapore Book Fair 2019.

Their favourite rodent, Geronimo Stilton will also be doing a daily appearance at the B2 Kids Activities Zone to take pictures with his fans and also do book signing.

Watch and learn

Take part in lifestyle workshops such as tea, beer, red wine and coffee appreciation, some of them hosted by tenants of Capitol.

Or join this year’s bicentennial-themed heritage trails to take a look at where our forefathers landed and lived, and see how Singapore looked like before it was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles.

You can also catch the screening of two Taiwanese movies and some short films, including the acclaimed “More Than Blue” and animation “Grandma and her Ghosts”.

Be one of the first to get a taste of the delicious bread from Taiwanese bakery Wu Pao Chun

Taiwan international-award winning bakery chef Wu Pao Chun will be setting up his first Singapore branch at Capitol, a joint-venture with BreadTalk.

To coincide with Singapore Book Fair 2019, the shop will bring forward its opening date to 31 May. It will even be offering 300 breads for redemption to Book Fair visitors who are able to collect 5 stamps from 5 different zones of the Book Fair.

Wu Pao-chun will also be giving a talk on his book on the 31 May at 11am at the Outdoor Plaza main stage as part of the Singapore Book Fair programme.

There’s certainly something for everyone at Singapore Book Fair 2019, so head over to Capitol as soon as you can and claim an exclusive treat from us!
