Now in its 23rd year, the Berita Harian Achiever of the Year (BH AOY) continues to celebrate the significant contributions and achievements by Malay/Muslim individuals to encourage excellence, success and giving back to the community.

With significant editorial coverage of the awards that can reach up to 170,000 Berita Harian readers, BH AOY serves as a great opportunity for advertisers to raise their profile and brand awareness within the community. 

Apart from dedicated articles and mentions in Berita Harian and Berita Minggu, there are also opportunities to appear in Berita Harian’s popular podcast and Facebook Live sessions (subject to editorial discretion).

The award ceremony will be held in a hybrid format with a physical ceremony for award recipients and virtual participation from readers. It will also feature a panel of judges formed among professionals led by the Berita Harian editorial team. It will be held in October* with nominations from the general public and community leaders and organisations commencing in August*.

1. Associate partner package

With $30,000 ad commitment and $4,000 cash commitment, associate partners will receive the following entitlements:

  • Credit mention by event host during the award presentation ceremony

2. Supporting partner package

With $12,000 ad commitment and $3,000 cash commitment, associate partners will receive the following entitlements:

AWARD CATEGORIES

BH AOY comprises two categories. 

Started in 1998, the BERITA HARIAN ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR award recognises and honour Malay/ Muslim individuals for their achievements in their chosen fields. 

Notable winners of this award include:

  • Mr Mohamed Faizal Mohamed Abdul Kadir (2020), Deputy Chief Prosecutor & Senior State Counsel at Attorney-General's Chambers, Singapore;  
  • Imam Syed Hassan Mohammed Al-Attas (2019), Head of Masjid Ba’alwie; 
  • Fashion designer Mr Ashley Isham (2017); and 
  • President Halimah Yacob (2001), who won when she was the Assistant Secretary General of NTUC. 

Meanwhile, the BERITA HARIAN YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR award, introduced in 2013, recognises young aspiring Malay/Muslim Singaporeans aged 30 and below. 

Winners include:

  • Footballer Ikhsan Fandi (2020), 
  • Ms Nur Yusrina Ya’akob (2017), the first Malay/ Muslim woman from Singapore to scale the summits of Mt Everest; and 
  • Mr Adil Hakeem Mohd Rafee (2013), the first Malay in 44 years to be awarded the President's Scholarship.
