Manuela Blanka Brutraeger, former Miss Earth Singapore was named the nation’s 58th representative of the Miss Universe Singapore competition on 11 October 2017 held at Resorts World Sentosa. She continues her quest as she competes for the international title in Las Vegas on the 26th of November this year.
Staying true to the pageant’s theme this year, “Vie for a Beautiful Cause”, Manuela, the daughter of a Caucasian father and a Eurasian mother creates art out of metal and continues to champion her ideals of adopting a sustainable environment, with aims to stomp down on climate change.
The results were determined by a panel of seven judges, who included Miss Universe Singapore Organisation’s national director Nuraliza Osman; Mr Murali Subramaniam, deputy managing editor of Singapore Press Holdings' English/Malay/Tamil Media group; media personality Paul Foster and celebrity stylist Keith Png. It was a difficult decision for the judges, who deliberated for about 20 minutes, a longer time than the allocated length of three pop songs.
Ms Bruntraeger received the crown from last year's winner, Ms Cheryl Chou. First and second runners-up were pricing analyst Rudihra Ramathas, 26, and theatre student Emilbiany Nenggal Intong, 18, respectively. Manuela also received 3 out of 6 subsidiary awards.
This is the second year that The New Paper organised the event in partnership with the Miss Universe Singapore Organisation. The event saw 4 new sponsors this year in Skinceuticals, The Urban Clinic, Resorts World Sentosa and B-FIT SG.
TNP editor Eugene Wee said: "Thanks to our sponsors, this year's event was bigger and better compared to the pageant last year. It was with the perfect mix of fun and glamour that we crowned this year's Miss Universe Singapore."
Our new sponsors too were very pleased with the event, more particularly The Urban Clinic. Dr Yanni Xu, Medical Director, The Urban Clinic said: “We were very pleased to have partnered with SPH for a prestigious national event such as Miss Universe Singapore.
