Knowledge is key for better health

More than 300 Straits Times’ readers who attended the The Straits Times Mind & Body 360° Health Management Seminar learned how to better manage their overall diet and lifestyle choices.

It was worth turning up at 9am on a Saturday to attend the seminar, in its second year, at The Star Gallery on Nov 19.

The five speakers — gastroenterologist Kelvin Thia, cardiologist Dinesh Nair, urologist Gerald Tan, breast surgeon Wee Siew Bock and orthopaedic surgeon Tan Chyn Hong, all from Mount Elizabeth Hospitals — provided insights in their field of specialisation and answered questions from the audience.

Dr Thia addressed concerns over bloating and change in bowel habits. He extensively covered its symptoms, possible gastrointestinal conditions, possible tests that can be done and also explained the process of endoscopy.

Dr Nair explained how to recognise the symptoms of a heart attack and the importance of early detection.

Readers were treated to goodie bags worth more than $20, which included exclusive The Straits Times and Mount Elizabeth Hospital premiums, as well as Ocean Spray’s cranberry juice and reduced sugar craisins.

Mount Elizabeth Hospital also offered tailored gastroscopy and heart screening packages specially for the attendees.

The seminar was organised by The Straits Times Mind and Body, presented by Mount Elizabeth Hospital and sponsored by Ocean Spray.
