Lianhe Wabao and Shin Min Daily News jointly held a Chinese New Year celebratory luncheon on Jan 17 at Tien Court, Copthorne King’s Hotel. 310 readers were treated to a sumptuous meal specially prepared by Masterchef Ho Tien Tsai.
The main highlight for any CNY Luncheon is always the appearance of the God of Fortune. This year, the God of Fortune went around distributing “hongbaos”, each containing a lottery ticket, to all the guests. This brought about lots of fanfare and excitement to our readers who whipped out their mobile devices to capture pictures with the God of Fortune.
A mass “lo hei” session was also held with everyone tossing the traditional dish, each wishing for a good year and abundance of wealth, health and happiness. Guests were also entertained by top “Ge Tai” artiste Li Pei Fen’s energetic performance, which added to the festive cheer.
Chef Ho also did a cooking demonstration for two of the dishes that were also served as part of the menu for the luncheon. Using the sponsor’s products — Marigold Dawn Milk and Marigold King of Kings — he demonstrated “Crispy-Fried King Prawns” and “Steamed Sea Bass”. This was a great opportunity for our readers to learn as these dishes could be easily prepared for their family and friends during Chinese New Year.
The luncheon ended with an attractive lucky draw with prizes sponsored by Copthorne King’s Hotel. One lucky reader walked away with a 2D1N stay in Copthorne King’s deluxe room and Tien Court food vouchers.
Reader Mr Lim Boon said: “I’m happy to have participated in this event. I could feel the Chinese New Year mood through the activities, food and performances.”
Reader Lim Guan Kia said: “This event is great. I hope Shin Min and Wanbao will continue to organise such activities every year.”
