In line with the recently refreshed Lianhe Wanbao and its vision of “Care”, “Connect” and “Communicate”, the publication organised the “Lianhe Wanbao Cares Project” on Sunday, Aug 31.
A total of 15 WB editors, together with 30 reader befrienders and volunteers participated in this event.
More than 100 beneficiaries consisting of the elderly and low-income families with ages ranging from 6 to 92 years joined in this one-day activity that started with a eight-course lunch at Sichuan Douhua Restaurant, followed by a visit to the RWS S.E.A. Aquarium, dinner at Port of Lost Wonder and the Sentosa “Wings of Time” show.
Over lunch, everyone was entertained by veteran singer-host Jessica Tan, who performed some familiar tunes as well as table games that encouraged interaction and team work for all participants. Lianhe Wanbao editor Lee Huay Leng also distributed hongbao, contributed by the event’s partners, to each beneficiary.
The highlight for the afternoon was the song performance by the Lianhe Wanbao editorial team and the event’s partners. Everyone present was clapping and swaying their arms as they sang the song “朋友” together.
Participants continued their day with a guided tour around RWS S.E.A. Aquarium. They were also treated to a sumptuous buffet spread at The Port of Lost Wonder and concluded the evening with a spectacular display of water, laser and fire effects at the Sentosa ‘Wings of Time’ show.
Ms Lee said: “We want to walk the talk on caring for the underprivileged by initiating social causes through the WB Cares Project. I am glad that our readers and partners had shown such strong support in this outing, and helped us make this project possible. The happy faces of the beneficiaries truly made the Sunday a meaningful and joyful one for us all.”
Partners for this day’s event included Chan Brothers Travel, Dou Hua Restaurants, Sentosa Leisure Management and Resorts World Sentosa.
Mr Goh Chye Boon, executive vice-president of Resort Operations, Resorts World Sentosa said: “Together with Lianhe Wanbao, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is privileged to be able to bring compassion, joy and love to low-income families through this event at the S.E.A. Aquarium. We hope that the families had a meaningful family bonding time learning about the fascinating marine life that calls the S.E.A. Aquarium home. We look forward to increasing our impact through RWS Cares by partnering like-minded organisations in extending our outreach to the less privileged.”
