The 6th edition of the National Chinese Challenge 2019 (全国华文大比拼) came to a close with an enthralling finals on 17th April at Bugis+.
This year, a record high of 820 primary school students from 49 schools and 1,037 students from 43 secondary schools took part in the preliminaries held in March.
The finals saw four primary schools and six secondary schools vying for the championship titles. Raffles Institution and Raffles Girls’ Primary School eventually walked away with the Championship for the Secondary and Primary school category respectively.
Using a game show format for the finals, the teams raced against time to answer questions on the spot by pressing a buzzer. The guest of honour, Mr Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Education, also had the chance to pose questions live during the finals.
A first for this year, viewers at home could also tune in to the finals which was broadcast live on Lianhe Zaobao’s Facebook.
The National Chinese Challenge 2019 is jointly organised by Singapore Press Holdings’ (SPH) Chinese Media Group and Nanyang Girls’ High School. The event is co-presented by ICBC Singapore Branch and supported by Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), National Translation Committee (NTC), Speak Mandarin Campaign and Bugis+.
