Shin Min Daily News Arm Wrestling livens up the heartlands

Coffee shops at Yishun, Crawford Lane and Ang Mo Kio came alive as the strongest battled for top honours in the Shin Min Arm Wrestling Challenge 2016.

The 8th edition of the challenge concluded on a high note at its Grand Finals on Dec 10. Organised by Shin Min Daily News and sponsored by Royal Stout, the men-only challenge consisted of two preliminary rounds and a final showdown, with $8,800 worth of cash prizes at stake.

The selected venues were packed to the brim with contestants, their supporters and many spectators from the respective neighbourhoods and the atmosphere was charged with spontaneity and energy.

Contestants came from all walks of life and different races. They were grouped according to two weight categories: A (70kg and below) and B (above 70kg). After arduous competition among over 55 contestants in the preliminary rounds, 32 finalists were selected for the Grand Finals.

On Dec 10, all finalists put their best arm forward and eight of the strongest from each category emerged as the winners. Spectators were at the edge of their seats as they rooted for their favourite finalists and were entertained by the hosts, various stage games and performances.

Overall, the Shin Min Arm Wrestling Challenge 2016 was an effective platform in promoting camaraderie within family and friends and, healthy competition among heartlanders.
