SPH holds inaugural tech conference

Singapore Press Holdings was buzzing on August 19 with the launch of its inaugural tech conference, SPHTech Day: Transformation 2019.

The event celebrated SPH’s continuous journey of digital transformation and innovation in conjunction with its 35th anniversary.

In his keynote speech, SPH CEO Ng Yat Chung shared that SPH recognises how technology is disrupting businesses across all industries and is equipping itself to surmount the challenges. Mr Ng also highlighted the event’s aim to raise awareness, and the impetus to innovate and re-skill oneself in this era of digital disruption.

This was followed by an interesting fireside chat between SPH Deputy CEO Anthony Tan and Markus Leonhard Keiper, Ex-CMO and Head of Product for AIRBUS, where Mr Tan shared about how SPH was one of the first news companies in Singapore to have an online presence, as well as SPH’s ongoing efforts to meet the varied needs of its readers, both in content and products.

Chief Technology Officer Glen Francis walked attendees through technology trends and his roadmap on empowering SPH’s technology needs while Fiona Chan, Head of Media Strategy and Analytics, shared about SPH’s progressive use of artificial intelligence to serve personalised content to increase reader engagement.

Industry leaders also attended the event and gave keynote presentations on topics like immersive technology, data and customer experience. Speakers included Shameek Kundu, Group Chief Data Officer, Standard Chartered Bank; James Chang, CEO, Lazada Singapore; Ditesh Gathani, Head of Engineering at Grab; Johnson Chang, Advisory Solution Consultant, ServiceNow; and Gijs Jekel, Director, RPA, Tricentis.

The exhilarating and illuminating event was complemented by innovative showcases from various tech companies together with the event’s principal sponsors, Tricentis SGP Pte Ltd & ServiceNow Pte Ltd, ranging from tech solutions to drones and AR games.
