Only 15 years old but already a towering 1.82cm, Ms Diya Prabhakar, an O-level student at Tampines Secondary School, was crowned the 22nd winner of The New Paper New Face contest. Held at Takashimaya Square on October 2, Diya won the $10,000 cash prize and an exclusive feature in Her World. Besides clinching the top title, she also won two of five subsidiary awards — Miss Levi’s® and Best Catwalk.
The first runner-up was 21-year-old Jasmine Sim, a Bachelor in Business Management student at Singapore Management University. Besides winning $5,000 cash, she was also named ‘Subaru Miss Vivacious’. The second Runner-up was 19-year-old Syiqah Marican.
The youngest contestant, 14-year-old Iman Fandi Ahmad, clinched two subsidiary titles — New Look Miss Fashionista and Miss Popularity. The daughter of the Singapore’s football celebrity, Fandi Ahmad, and model Wendy Jacobs garnered 29 per cent of almost 10,000 votes casted in the ‘Vote for Miss Popularity’.
TNP editor Dominic Nathan said: “It was a great event. And year on year, we build on it. This year, yet another star is born, and I think, looking at how she stood out from the competition, she certainly has a promising career ahead of her in modelling.”
The New Paper New Face 2014 was presented by Subaru MotorImage, with Levi’s® as the Official Apparel and New Look as the Official Footwear & Accessories.
