The Straits Times Global Forum Outlook was launched this year with a series of quarterly briefings that focused on country-specific issues. The first quarterly briefing was held on February 24 at OCBC Centre Conference Room Level 50 Conference Room. The topic of discussion was “Terror and turbulence in Indonesia”.
Almost 130 people attended the event, comprising readers of The Straits Times and OCBC premier banking customers. The session started with a short welcome and opening remark from Ms Audrey Quek, Foreign Editor of The Straits Times. Mr Francis Chan, Indonesia Bureau Chief of The Strait Times, delivered an interesting presentation based on his experience at the terror site and an overview of Indonesia's recent political and economic developments.
Guest Speaker Barry Desker, Distinguished Fellow, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, NTU, also gave his take on the macro geopolitical situation.
Ms Selena Ling, Head of Treasury Research & Strategy in OCBC Bank, spoke about Indonesia's economic outlook and investment climate, including the progress of reforms and infrastructure investments.
The second quarterly briefing in May 2016 focuses on China, while the third and last session is slated for August. The Main Forum will be held in November.
