Teams fulfil brief in 48 hours in SMA NexGen Challenge

The Singapore Media Awards (SMA), in its 12th year, is one of the industry platforms dedicated to recognise the local media community, celebrate the most effective media communications efforts in Singapore as well as to reward the collective effort of the agencies and media professionals in delivering impressive ideas and outstanding results.

The annual event is organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Singapore (4As), a non-profit trade association that represent advertising, media and marketing communications practitioners, agencies and related businesses in Singapore.

As one of the sponsors for SMA 2016, SPH is also proud to be the partner of the annual inter-agency competition SMA NexGen Challenge, targeted at young media professionals aged 30 and below. It is a platform for media planners to hone their media and communications skills, build more confidence and instill greater professional pride in the industry.

The challenge, which took place in July, saw 18 teams of enthusiastic media specialists partake in the hackathon, where the teams of two were given 48 hours to work on a media campaign brief assigned by SPH Marketing, Amplified Communications team.

Mr Jerry Siah, Head of Amplified Communications, said: “We wanted to leverage the opportunity as the strategic partner for SMA NexGen challenge. We were impressed by some of the presentations decked out within 48 hours. Most importantly, it provided us with better insights and ideas on how we can better enhance our efforts to promote our media offerings to the media professionals.”

The SMA awards celebration took place on August 25 at Ritz Carlton Hotel, where five teams were awarded as the finalists, three of them bagging home cash prizes and gifts amounting to more than $3,000.
