“UShine” (从关怀出发) is UFM100.3’s year-long campaign to address different social causes and issues monthly on-air. UFM100.3 aims to highlight issues affecting minority communities and create public awareness, show concern and help the less fortunate.
This year, UFM100.3 DJs aim to volunteer their time and effort for their chosen cause or organisation. Their experiences and interviews will be featured on-air daily over two weeks, generating awareness for the beneficiary or community of that month’s focus.
To kickstart this campaign, the January edition was aired on UFM100.3 from January 12 to 23 and it concluded with a volunteering event with 50 listeners on January 24. UFM100.3 DJs Carine & Limei accompanied close to 50 listeners to Lions Befrienders’ Senior Activity Centre at Bendemeer. UFM DJs and listeners were divided into groups of four to five people, together with certified volunteers, to conduct home visits to seniors who mostly stay alone, or whose family members seldom visit them.
This was a meaningful event for all, with some participants learning to be more compassionate while others realised the importance of being a good listener for the seniors as they need a lot of emotional and psychological support.
Carine Ang, UFM100.3’s program director and evening drive time DJ, said: “I am thrilled that our DJs shared their first-hand experiences at volunteering with their listeners and fans. Through the UShine programme, we hope that UFM100.3 listeners will become more aware of the less fortunate around us and extend their care towards them.”
The February edition of U-Shine will focus on Problem Gambling, and will be fronted by DJ Xin Ying.
