The 4th edition of the Lianhe Zaobao Singapore Budget 2019 Business Forum was held on 8 March 2019 at The Fullerton Hotel. Organised by Lianhe Zaobao, the Chinese flagship newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings, the post-Budget Mandarin forum targeted small and medium enterprise (SME) bosses and directors by offering them the opportunity to attain a deeper understanding of the Singapore Budget 2019 and its implications on the development of their businesses.
This year’s forum attracted 250 SME delegates, and consisted of a dialogue session with Guest-of-Honour Finance Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat and a panel discussion with top industry experts.
Alongside the Finance Minister, the dialogue session was moderated by Mr Goh Sin Teck, Editor of Lianhe Zaobao and Lianhe Wanbao, and panelists – Mr Roland Ng, President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman of Singapore Business Federation and Mr Douglas Foo, President of Singapore Manufacturing Federation.
Through the dialogue session, Mr Heng highlighted the importance of Singapore companies teaming up in order to break into foreign markets more effectively, instead of treating one another as rivals. The alliance would enable them to tap the potential of South-east Asia which, by 2030, is expected to be the fourth biggest economic region in the world.
Apart from the insightful session with Mr Heng, delegates also learned about ‘Digital Transformation for New Business Opportunities’ through a separate panel discussion with other industry leaders – Mr Suan Teck Kin, Head of Research, Global Economics and Markets Research of UOB; Mr Derrick Yap, CEO of PBA Group; Ms Jamie Tan, Founder of Flying Cape; and Mr Kawee Chong, CEO of Kinofy.
Main sponsor UOB and venue partner The Fullerton Hotel supported the forum.
